Most homes have a tank-style water heater, which uses electricity or gas to heat water. These tanks hold approximately 35-70 gallons of water and last 8-12 years. Even though the water in the tank is partially heated, you usually have to wait a short amount of time after turning on your faucet or shower to get hot water.

Tankless water heaters deliver hot water immediately and last approximately 10-14 years. With this type of system, water passes over heating elements, which are powered by gas or electricity. This type of water heater is convenient and saves time. You may need more than one water heater if you have a large home or need to run appliances like a dishwasher at the same time that you want to take a hot shower.

Maintenance Services For A Water Heater

An ounce of prevention can mean that your water heater lasts longer and runs more efficiently, which is why it’s important to schedule periodic water heater inspections. You can also avoid having your water heater fail – an inconvenience requiring immediate plumbing service.

Your water contains minerals that, over time, accumulate in your water storage tank. This sediment thickens and water cannot collect in the bottom of the tank, causing your water heater to run less efficiently and increase your energy bill. It is important to have your tank maintained before the drainage outlet becomes clogged, as draining the tank completely is a crucial aspect of maintenance.

Maintenance includes:

  • Draining your water heater
  • Flushing the tank and removing sediment
  • Cleaning the heating element
  • Clearing debris from the air/gas intake area
  • Inspection of water supply connections

If you don’t receive regular maintenance and your hot water heater causes water damage to your home, then your insurance company could deny the claim. Avoid the hassle and potential complications with your insurance company by calling to schedule routine maintenance.

After inspecting your hot water heater, one of our licensed San Antonio plumbing technicians will provide you with a written record that maintenance has been performed.

Repairing Your Water Heater

We understand that needing immediate hot water heater repair can be unpleasant and inconvenient – especially when you end up with a large puddle of water on your floor.

If your hot water heater is hissing, it may simply need to have a pressure relief valve repaired. More serious problems include a hole in your water tank or the piping, which can cause a messy and damaging leak.

Signs Your Water Heater is Going Out

When your hot water heater isn’t performing well, you may notice the following signs of a water heater problem.

  • Water needs to run through your faucet longer before you get hot water
  • Tap water isn’t quite as hot as it was in the past
  • Water heater makes a grinding noise
  • Water leaks onto the floor around your water heater

We have the expertise to repair or replace your water heater system, whether you have a gas, electric, tankless, or commercial water heater.

Contact Us Today

Why wait for your water heater to fail before giving it the attention it needs – and getting it serviced, or perhaps replaced, if necessary. Give us a call today to schedule an appointment.
